The primary focus of an Ancient Egyptians daily routine was to praise their gods in order to gain security and stability.
People would visit temples daily to perform rituals and offer sacrifices. Lots of people were involved in the process of caring for the God's which included anything from temple construction to having a hierarchy of priests and priestesses. |
An average Egyptian day was primarily focused around prayer and worship of the Gods. A typical Ancient Egyptian day may go something along the lines of this:
Morning (before breakfast): - Pray to the in-house shrine to the God associated with the particular village Did you know?In ancient Egypt, each village/town had its own spirit god which was in the form of an animal, bird, reptile, tree or object. These spirits were either friendly or menacing Because these spirits evolved into Gods, they needed to have a temple built for them. |
Midday:
- Go to work at the local temple caring for the God Priests would perform every day religious rites on the king’s behalf throughout the realm. If the God wasn't cared for properly, it would punish its people. Evening:
- Finish the day by returning home from temple. - Thank the God for blessing their day and pray for a fruitful tomorrow. - Refill the shrine with fresh flowers, fruit and incense ready for prayers and worship the next morning - Ensure that before going to bed, you pray one final time to the God. |
